Carmela publishing collective was founded in 2024, inspired by the idea of collective and self-organized work, which holds not only a professional but also an emancipatory dimension. That is why Carmela rejects hierarchy, makes decisions horizontally, and values creating opportunities and fostering solidarity in work over prioritizing talent. It focuses on building agreements rather than formal contracts. For this reason, Carmela wants to send a message from the margins of the market: "Our books – our goods, not commodities!" In an effort to offer access to books, not their price, the collective seeks to establish a subscription model to all the books it publishes, aiming to make them more cultural goods and less market products. Carmela wants to expand concentric circles of shared readings, understanding, values, and far-reaching views around the books it creates. With the wind in her hair and her hand above her eyes, Carmela gazes at the horizon full of hope, knowing that no change comes suddenly and that her song reaches the world as a whisper. That is why she steps into this world with the stride of compromise, with the desire that her whisper will soon echo in a full voice – a voice that uncompromisingly follows its rules and speaks of the possibilities of alternatives.
